Going Deeper: How To Make Sense Of Your Life When Your Life Makes No Sense by entrepreneur and metaphysical free spirit Jean-Claude Koven is a transcendent work of promise and encouragement, written especially for those the author terms “Wanderers” — advanced souls who came to Earth from a distant dimension, currently incarnated on planet Earth to aid in its dimensional shift.
Redefining reality with the positive message that now is the time to make a choice, whether to continue the status quo of one’s existence or strive to make a bigger difference for the better in the life of oneself and others, Going Deeper is a profound metaphysical work with a transcendent message about waking up and taking control of one’s positive influence, whether one truly believes oneself to be a Wanderer or simply an ordinary human soul beset with the same multitude of complex problems, challenges, and opportunities as anyone else.

What is my purpose?
What is the meaning of life?
If you are the type of person who often ask yourself these age-old questions, then this is a book worth considering. In a simple, straight-forward style accompanied by light, fun dialogue, Jean-Claude Koven explores profound metaphysical subjects and presents it in a manner any intelligent reader can understand.
The story begins a week after 9/11, when Larry, a successful LA lawyer, ends up adopting a puppy in the strangest of circumstances. Important to point out is the restless state of Larry’s mind at this point, as it symbolizes how many people think and feel in these times:
“Little by little it was dawning on him [Larry] that reality doesn’t lend itself to containment in tidy packages. Certainty was receding, replaced by a newborn voice in his psyche that demanded answers to a host of unspoken questions. Despite all his education and apparent success, the life he’d constructed for himself didn’t quite make sense to him anymore. Something about it was a complete sham. Whatever he was doing now, whatever he had done in the past, no longer had much relevance. And he had no answers.”
One day Larry decides to make a “nature” trip to Joshua Tree National Park with his beloved, and quite inseparable adopted dog, Zeus. On the way, Larry suddenly hears a voice talking to him. Stunned, he realizes it comes from Zeus. Thus Larry’s spiritual journey begins A journey that will completely transformed him, heighten his level of awareness and change his old sense of illusion vs. reality.
Larry learns that he is, in fact, a Wanderer, an advance soul from a distant dimension come to earth in love and service to assist the transition into the next paradigm. Through the engrossing, sometimes hilarious dialogues between Larry and Zeus, Larry and a racoon, Larry and a juniper tree, and Larry and stones, metaphysical concepts are explored, among these the Higher Self, Akashic records, Levels of Awareness, densities, chakras, indigo children and reincarnation. Timeless subjects such as religion, science, faith, free will and intuition are also discussed. At the end of the book there is also a helpful and informative glossary with all the metaphysical terms.
This novel should not only be in the shelf of every metaphysical enthusiast, but also in the hands of anybody who desires to enrich his/her spiritual life. All throughout the novel you’ll find enlightening words and quotes, like Einstein’s “No problem can be solved from the same level of Consciousness that created it.” Or “When caught in a fog bank, you can always see more clearly by moving above it.” I specially like Zeus’ advice at the beginning, when he tells Larry that human beings shouldn’t focus so much on the imagined destination and instead learn to enjoy the actual journey in getting there.
Even for those of you who don’t believe in concepts like Wanderers, Light Workers, Planetary Servers, reincarnation or chakras, any open-minded, intelligent reader will be able to derive wise tips on how to become a better human being and live a better life.

Going Deeper is a remarkable book, reflecting both the author’s broad knowledge of esoteric teachings and his resolve to make them accessible to a large audience. Jean-Claude Koven’s vision of the expansion of human consciousness is presented in an easy-to-read style, as a novel in which master teachers don the guise of rocks, trees and animals. In fact it is his faithful dog that serves as the guide, introduces him to this unusual series of teachers, and offers pithy explanations when the communications gap between teacher and student seems too wide to bridge.
The main thesis is that the world is going though a major expansion of consciousness for which the mass of humanity is not ready. If people don’t make the grade, they will be shipped to some other, less-demanding realm. But to help, 60 million advanced souls—including Larry, the main character—have incarnated to serve as way-showers. The problem is that these advanced souls are caught up in the heavy vibration of today’s world and don’t recognize their potential or mission. Hence the crash course provided for Larry. The veil before Larry’s eyes is lifted and his vision of reality is rapidly broadened.
Koven does a good job of exploring the richness of the human constitution, touching on Jungian notions of fragmentary personalities as well as multiple levels of consciousness comparable to those discussed in Theosophy. He views the human entity as a kind of eternally rolling aggregate, in which new “selves” are created at the bottom as old ones peal off the top into Universal Oneness. This is an interesting concept, although continuity of identity seems to lie solely in pattern. Buddhists might be comfortable with this concept, but others might prefer a more substantial anchor like the Greco-Theosophical monad.
Perhaps the most important criticism is the sense of separatism created by the differences between the way-showers and humanity at large. The way-showers are not the most advanced representative of the present human life-wave but avatars—60 million of them—sent to rescue at least a portion of humanity from the Great Divide. The story ends before we learn how successful they are. Nevertheless, the avatars are exhorted to serve, primarily through being what they are. The message is that high consciousness will make itself felt, not so much through its actions, but through its presence in the world. Unfortunately, the high consciousness can express itself only on an individual basis. We are told on page 374 that “the time for collective action has passed.” This will come as a disappointment to all who looked forward to the expansion of group consciousness in the Aquarian Age.
Going Deeper seeks to broaden public awareness of higher reality, without requiring significant background knowledge of esoteric philosophy. On the other hand, some familiarity with popular science is an advantage. A number of references are made to cutting-edge (and what some would regard as fringe) science, such as the well-known experiments in pschokinesis that seek to correlate the output of random-number generators with mass consciousness. One of the hazards of referring to work on the frontiers of science is that theories can rapidly change, leaving an author out on a limb. For example, the book refers to the concept of wormholes, which have lost favor just in the last few months due to the work of Stephen Hawking.
Despite these few weaknesses—and its corny humor that gets irritating at times—Going Deeper is a good book that meets its objectives. It should succeed, and I recommend it to readers.
John Nash, Author of Quest for the Soul and The Soul and Its Destiny

Going Deeper is a daunting invitation to contribute to humanity in a larger way through your higher self. If you are remotely curious to explore the possibility and opportunity through this remarkable work, then you are being called to awaken the “Wanderer” in you! After the gross impact of the 9/11 incident, the stage is set for one successful attorney who asks the fate-filled questions, “Is this all there is?” “What are we doing to each other?” By investigating these questions, his vision of his part in the play of life is turned inward which creates the catalyst for his eclectic pilgrimage to seek the answers.
You are seduced to take this fascinating and life-changing ride alongside Larry and his remarkable dog Zeus. Pages will turn quickly for the reader who hungers to see what happens next for this pair during their profound journey. “Going Deeper” will stimulate change within you. This well-written book will provoke you out of a flaccid, complacent life. It will call you to contribute your own unique brilliance. It will support your excitement and courage to commit yourself to your greater vision. “Going Deeper” is a must-have for all individuals who believe they too have a special mission during their stay here on earth.

If the mark of a great teacher is taking what is known and making it understood, then the multifarious characters in Koven ’s Going Deeper must be masters. For the reader who is looking for personal clarity, here is the Traveller’s Guide for help through the sidetracks and detours leading towards internal awareness.
Life, they say, is about Living. Few people disagree that now is the most momentous time in human history. We live in such days that change is obviously all around us. It cannot be denied. It can bring suffering and confusion or true enlightenment. Koven, using a delightful mixture of philosophy, wisdom and wit , gives a seeker the fundamental Road Map into the world of joy, happiness and Love through service to others. Far from a lightweight airport book, it is something to accompany one’s journey deeper into each person’s conception of reality. Going Deeper traverses the gulf between the knowing and the fast asleep. Reading it, awakens all the hidden crevasses that we all bind to our personas. Release came to me when discovering the broad spaces encompassed in Koven ’ s majestic work. Here I found, not handy phrases, but the cement that could bring into alignment the many ideas of existence I have pondered for years.
Science, religion, spirituality and old – fashioned common sense lie side by side with the newest discoveries by the most adventurous thinkers. The Information Field of Creativity is no longer more threatening than aspects of Zero Point physics. Religion, oft the scapegoat of the disenchanted, is not left unscathed, but dealt with, with compassion and a great deal of deep reflection. Even many New Age ideas, which usually leave me on the edge of skepticism, with their often unsupported declarations, become, finally, if not accepted, then at least reasonable.
On the other hand, I would not call it a book that trapped me into reading into the small hours. Not at all. There are far too many original quotes, tales and brilliantly written, even amusing, anecdotes for it to be consigned to the bedside stack. As a lifelong Wanderer this book and the revelations created, will accompany my future travels — given excess baggage allowance – in my heart and soul, if not in the physical world.
Cliff Sanderson, Author of Earth Bound, founder and teacher of Deep Field Relaxation method
Going Deeper by Jean-Claude Koven is not a novel in the ordinary sense of the word and again it is also not a self-help book in the normal sense of the word. It is a novelized version of a man’s spiritual search to understand his true nature and his true mission on this planet earth. The book’s cover categorizes it better as Self-Help, Spirituality, New Age and Metaphysical.
The action takes place in Joshua Tree National Park and the whole ‘Story’ is about the Spiritual Rebirthing (the Phoenix is an appropriate metaphor) of Larry, the ‘hero’ through shedding many layers of ego resulting in better awareness and thus better integration of the many egos that go to make up an individual.
Through Larry and his dog Zeus, who acts as a teacher, guide and guru, Jean-Claude tries to explain the nature of the ‘self’ or soul. The book is especially appealing to the ‘Wanderers’, souls of a higher plane who have volunteered to take birth on the earth allowing the veil of ignorance to cover them, but who, at the same time are not allowed to forget their true mission. This reviewer could well identify with the wanderer’s problems, having been tormented by similar conflicts between the insights that keep coming up from the other side and the veil of ignorance that tries to cover up those sights. The book certainly helps clarify many of the puzzles presented by the universe. The book is different from the usual new age books in that it tries to harmonize the relationship between spirituality and science. I found the portion that bridges the spirituality and science excellent reading.
Even if you don’t have a scientific background, the book talks to you from several points of perception and thus succeeds in reaching its central message across of non-duality, or the unity in diversity.
The author has obviously been exposed to several philosophies and religions from across the world. His ideas run close to the ideas of non-duality carried in the Upanishads and Sri Bhagavad Gita (The Song Divine), the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sai Baba etc. Readers who are steeped in believing a specific religion may find some of the ideas revolutionary and disturbing.
In general, the book has been edited very well. The few slips don’t affect the message. The photograph on the cover is really inviting and the printing quality is good.
The book has gripped my attention and interest. I had to pick it up every day and continue. This is the first book that I could read from beginning to end in the space of about a week, after several months of health problems. As the author writes, nothing is really random and I felt that the book came into my hands at the right time.
I won’t urge you to go and buy the book and read it. If you are ready, the book will come to you.

Going Deeper surprised me. Due for release on October 15 this year, this well written, New Age novel began with an Introduction that was reminiscent of the “Multidimensional Identity” movement that flowered in the early 90’s. I expected a rehash of those ideas.
Then came Chapter One. Here I was, reading about “Larry” and his dog “Zeus” going about their life in Southwest USA. To give you an idea about the story line, I have to reveal part of the plot: Zeus (who linked up with Larry through unusual circumstances by the way) could talk. If that wasn’t enough, he also was a master . . . Larry’s master to be exact. The two of them go on various adventures, many of them metaphysical, and the author addresses several social and political issues without becoming political, which is a excellent feat. For instance, “… the events of 9/11 are open to interpretation.” This insight, incidentally, was shared by a spirit in a rock. This and countless other mystical and especially shamanistic experience fill the pages.
Jean-Claude Koven writes well and his book is a pleasure to read. I find that many of his ideas run parallel to my own and so should anyone who has explored the mystical side of life. Going Deeper is a spiritual adventure packed with fresh insights and fun. (Zeus likes to make wise-cracks. . . .)
If you like a fresh look a reality, then you’ll enjoy the journey that Going Deeper will take you on.

If this sounds like you or someone that you know, then this book is a must, assisting in dissolving the dream that keeps you from awakening. Are you one of the 70 million Wanderers on this planet, Jean Claude Koven asks? These advanced souls from distant dimensions are here to bring along a shift in consciousness. According to Koven only 9% have awoken to their destiny and are doing the work. We are here to shift our awareness into healing, awakening to truth by revisiting old myths and examining twisted realities. The media, scientists etc, are simply not telling us the truth. We need to learn to surrender to our choices.
In Going Deeper Koven explores a relationship with his dog (of humorous undetermined pedigree) to bridge the pursuits of practical enterprise and cosmic mystery. In this epic journey leading to the Joshua Tree National Park they encounter amazing teachers that challenge conventional wisdom, to help assist us in the impending shift to our new dispensation. The setting of the two and a half day odyssey in nature, where Larry encounters a variety of teachers including raccoons, buffalos, talking trees and stones are met with wit and wisdom.
The ‘Voice’ explains: “Free will belongs to the realm of the soul.” The ‘Interdimensional Survival Manual’ calls it the ultimate gift; focusing on the choices we make that determine our destiny. The chilling truth is that timing is everything. Topics range from cosmic perspectives, the state of the planet, to making decisions and redefining your reality. There are chapters on 9/11: – the day the world changed; the other side of the veil as well as the myth of creation. This book is filled with helpful anecdotes and practical advice. It is a timely reminder that wondering about the miracles and majesty of life should be an everyday occurrence, not just a special event.
Oprah Winfrey said: “great communication begins with connection”. The author demonstrates the power of connection. Providing an affecting showcase providing of extraordinary coincidences. The book contains intensely original and creative ideas that are timely and philosophical, as well as spiritual concepts embedded in wisdom. These are presented in an easy to read way.
The narrative draws the reader into an imaginative reality, drawing from eclectic sources: both religions and other teachings. It brings us the message that changes and shifts are going to occur; and that we have to start working and shifting in our hearts. Awareness we claim will facilitate the changes to a desirable illumination.
Awakening those that sleep? This should be compulsory reading for any being on a spiritual journey. Take the phone of the hook and read it. You are about to be awoken. The journey has really just begun. Is there something missing in your life? Explore Koven’s creation of a vivid picture of cosmic relationships and our role in it.
If you want to understand, this is a fascinating primer. Most of all it’s the voice of one brave man with his dog Zeus in search of the epiphany of truth. At the same time Koven fosters the appreciation of nature. In his search for the most ultimate truth Koven establishes looking inward. He ends Going Deeper on a fantastic blast of hope. Visit his website www.goingdeeper.org where one can appreciate the social commentary, claim the gesture of belonging, and find a pathway to healing.

Jean-Claude Koven’s delightful book, Going Deeper, takes the reader on a spiritual journey with a Los Angeles lawyer (Larry) and his dog (Zeus) to Joshua Tree National Park. Larry’s journey truly begins when he is startled to hear his dog talking to him…helping him awaken to a much deeper understanding of his life and the univer. The main premise of Going Deeper is that there are millions of “Wanderers,” advanced souls from distant dimensions, who feel like they are not quite of this world, but need help remembering what they are doing here on Earth at this time.
Through discussions with Zeus and several other wise yet irreverent teachers (such as a raccoon, a juniper tree, and stones) Larry explores such diverse topics as consciousness, chakras, finding one’s life purpose, and communicating with one’s High Self and the Akashic records. Going Deeper balances its serious subject matter with zany humor, as it does an outstanding job of combining spiritual concepts from a variety of esoteric teachings into a cohesive whole.
My favorite part of Going Deeper was the description of the secret to fully awakening through increasing awareness via focused questioning. Many such tools and meditations are provided through Going Deeper, which reads like a spiritual self-help book disguised as a novel. I was pleased to find fascinating ideas liberally sprinkled throughout the story, so I’d find myself feeling the happy glow of these shining ideas for days afterward.
Spiritual seekers will find pearls of wisdom and belly laughs galore in this playful yet profound exploration of all that is.

A number of references are made to cutting-edge (and what some would regard as fringe) science, such as the well-known experiments in pschokinesis that seek to correlate the output of random-number generators with events that stir mass consciousness.
Well worth reading.

Koven feels his life’s purpose so far has been to write this book and the events of 9/11 brought it to a head. At that time there was a wave of compassion and love, but people soon forgot and reverted to old attitudes of revenge and retribution. He says that there is irrefutable scientific evidence of changes including magnetic pole shifts, planetary atmospheres and an increase in the size of the sun’s heliosphere but governments feel helpless so they conceal the information. The book is a journey in waking up. Although it covers basic issues such as how to come into the moment, listening to your body, allowing nature to be your teacher, altered states, dreams as well as information about ley lines, power spots and much more, it is woven into an adventure which makes it an irresistible and delightful journey of discovery. It flows, it is intelligent, credible and I relished the humour, often laughing out loud. Can you imagine being told: “You breathe 17 thousand breaths a day and you are only now showing up!” I appreciated the eclecticism and how his own life experience is also used for teaching, for instance his fearful inner child and divorce. The solutions he gives to the fact that we pretend to forget who we are and get stuck playing in duality and polarity are simple: move to the heart and surrender. An excellent rich read. Highly recommended.

Going Deeper is truly the novel of the New Age—meant for all of us “fish out of water” —the 70 million Wanderers who have ventured onto this planet, most unfortunately still asleep. This book is conceived as a catalyst to urge the unawakened Wanderers to wake up and BE their destiny—whatever form their specialized service work will take in the upcoming planetary dimensional shifts of this earth.
Even if you don’t need to be nudged awake, it is still a great book which presents the deeper concepts of the New Age in an enjoyable ‘fictional’ read. I absolutely love that the author has recognized the deep wisdom held by other than human beings. Animals, trees, and stones have such wisdom if we have but ears to hear.
This book has the potential to be the next Celestine Prophecy in terms of a bestseller crossing over into the mainstream. But, it is a much better written book, and fathoms deeper than the predecessor. In other words, one which is more suited to this current time period. That it is a first book makes it all the more an amazing accomplishment.
Even if the author does no more writing, he will have probably left a complete, eye-opening legacy for the earth Wanderers. If even a small percentage of these souls wake up from reading this, he will have done an incredible service for the Earth. I congratulate and honor you, Mr. Koven, for a masterful work.

This book helps you make sense of life when your life makes no sense at all. I guess you could call it a ‘self help’ book but it doesn’t seem pushy or over the top like some life mentoring can. It’s what I’d call fiction, but you do appreciate it as more of a teaching novel.
It’s the story of a man named Larry who is a very successful attorney in LA. He is recovering from a divorce (like more of us seem to be these days) and is questioning the direction of his life after September 11. From there you are somehow introduced to a talking dog, a gentle tree, a rapping raccoon and many more erratic characters. The writer, Koven, takes on some big issues and explains the nature of reality and the purpose of our existence. All with the help of these odd-ball characters that you somehow do relate to.
It is a book of wisdom and esoteric truth. You travel beyond space and time and receive practical advice to help improve your life. It also helps you take responsibility for your life’s direction in this time of quick paced chaos.

A bright, new and truly inspirational look at the spiritual quest.
Entertaining, engaging and subtle, this book carries a serious underlying message. Author Jean-Claude Koven has chosen a humorous fictional character named Larry to make his point. Larry and his wise-cracking dog Zeus make their way to Joshua Tree National Park for, what Larry thinks will be, a relaxing holiday. Zeus however has other ideas. Yes the dog talks however before you scoff and disregard this book, you should know that Zeus speaks with the wisdom of the ages. Larry begins a journey of spiritual awakening and true enlightenment with the help of Zeus and his unusual friends. Larry learns that the Earth and all of her inhabitants are depending on him to move them smoothly into the next dimension.
Author Jean-Claude Koven has studied with the Masters and lectured on six continents. He stimulates the hidden memories deep within and seeks to help realign this planet’s inhabitants with their souls.
With bookshelves bulging at the seams with technical often boring information on enlightenment, spiritual awakening, finding the Self, etc., this book is a refreshing change that not only covers most topics for the spiritual voyager, but does it in a most enjoyable format. The cover photograph is representative of the book’s contents and most pleasing to the eye. Well written, informative and nicely presented — this book is highly recommended.Shirley Roe, Allbooks Reviews

The book that’s sending shockwaves through the metaphysical community. Written for Lightworkers, Wanderers and planetary servers to reconnect forgotten memories. Explores who you are, why you’re here and what needs to be done to accomplish your mission. If you’ve ever felt Earth was not your real home … alienated from friends and family … that you’ve come here to do something important … this is a book about you.
Jean-Claude Koven is one of those rare, independent, and adventurous free spirits who successfully combines practical enterprise and cosmic mystery. A highly successful entrepreneur who has started and run more than a dozen business ventures over the course of four decades, during the same years he studied with spiritual masters and led awareness-expanding workshops on six continents.
Jean-Claude’s abiding love of the mystery of Creation sent him around the world on a relentless quest to learn from a host of extraordinary masters both on and beyond this plane of existence. What he saw and realized along the way informs his unique perspective and imbues his writing with uncommon love, power, and wisdom. Jean-Claude speaks for the millions of Light Workers who have come to this planet to help evolve the consciousness of its people. His pithy style prods and awakens the dormant memories hidden deep within each of us.
Jean-Claude lives in Rancho Mirage, California with his wife, Arianne, and Zeus—a fifteen-inch-high dog of undetermined pedigree who sits in constant meditation on his desk, offering support and unconditional love …as only a stuffed animal can.

Every time I pick up my copy of Going Deeper, I smile, both in appreciation and in anticipation of what new revelations and inspirations I am about to enjoy. Jean-Claude Koven has written a brilliant new age primer that brings today’s metaphysical and spiritual consciousness to life in an easy yet compelling style. More inspiring and much more likeable than The Celestine Prophecy, Going Deeper will no doubt make a similar impact as word of its message spreads. If you’re like me and will happily entrust your journey to the guidance of a loveable, wise-cracking dog and his oddly-assorted bevy of other-worldly spirit guides, then get ready for a wonderful, mystical exploration of what we call reality. And hold your hat on!

My copy of Jean-Claude Koven’s book, Going Deeper , is now flowing with yellow ink. There’s almost as much yellow as black! What I mean by this is – for many years now I have read ALL books, including novels and vintage science fiction, with a yellow highlighter in my hand. In the case of Going Deeper , I have highlighted probably more than any book about the Journey to Consciousness that I can remember. In this case I have highlighted several categories of words and passages:
1. Anything new or interesting from which I can learn.
2. All those phrases/passages/paragraphs which state an already-known or already-familiar concept presented in a newer or better or more efficient way. (There is a great deal in this category in this book. I am always looking for such better-ways-of-expression not only for my own edification but to use when teaching a number of healing and consciousness-oriented seminars and workshops).
3. Any new or well-phrased or particularly apt examples or metaphors. Examples/Metaphors/Parables, and the like, are very powerful teaching tools, the use of which is best illustrated by Master Jesus and Gautama the Buddha. Going Deeper is chock-full of such excellent Examples.
4. Similar to #3, yet separate, would be Definitions, excellently stated.
5. All of those parts having to do with Human Psychology, such as the Inner Child/Inner Parts work, of which there is a great deal well-expressed in easily digestible form. (I have over 25 years experience in such work).
6. Sometimes a few words, sometimes the entire quotation from among those Inspiring Quotations at the beginning of each chapter.
7. All such phrases/sentences/paragraphs/ideas/concepts/definitions/words which parallel, mirror or, most of all, duplicate my world-view …including “world-view-as Universal-Overview”, Concepts about Reality and Consciousness, and so on. There are many, many such examples in this book indicating to me that — possibly more than anything else I’ve read, Going Deeper is more in synch with what I already believe than anything else I’ve seen!
And, of course, it is well written in contemporary, everyday language. It is always a good thing to have your private, innermost thoughts and feelings about important subjects confirmed and supported from an “outside” source.
I would highly recommend “Going Deeper” to anyone who wishes to expand themselves, who enjoys learning, who wants to keep up with “what’s going on in Consciousness work” these days … and even to those who just like a good “read”!

Going Deeper: How To Make Sense of Your Life When Your Life Makes No Sense by Jean-Claude Koven is, quite frankly, one of the best books that I have had the pleasure to read in a very long time.
I have been delving into spirituality, new-age, metaphysical material (call it what you will) for several years. Following email correspondence with Francine Milano (whom I am deeply indebted to), Jean-Claude took the time to send me an autographed copy to review, wishing me an enjoyable journey (for wish I thank him).
I am not a believer in coincidence. Instead, I am a believer in synchronicity.
Feel free to make of this what you will, but I believe that Going Deeper was meant to find its way to me.
As per the list in the initial introduction that represents the Wanderers (advanced souls who came to Earth to assist with the impending shift), this is how I equate:
- are deeply saddened by the way humans treat each other (yes)
- suffer from allergies and other sensitivities (seem to be slightly empathic)
- feel somewhat alienated, even from friends and loving family (yes)
- love to gaze out at the stars (at times)
- find yourself thinking that UFOs and channeling might be true (yes)
- are more comfortable with plants and animals than with people (yes)
- have a sense that you came here to do something important (yes)
I seem to definitively relate to most on the list.
I have been told that I am an “old soul” by a very gifted individual with psychic abilities. Does that somehow relate? All is possible, but having passed through the Veil of Forgetting, I simply cannot remember.
The information presented within this book will greatly unsettle, disturb and trouble those who believe in the illusion, while, on the other hand, serving to challenge and summon those that do not. The illusion, quite simply, lies in the perpetuated belief that we are separate from the Creator. Such has been, and continues to be, the primary role of organized religion.
Such remains the hook. This is why Going Deeper will come across as being incredibly threatening to the multitude. It has been my belief that to change the world, I must first start with myself. It may seem rather simplistic, but Jean-Claude certainly agrees.
I like to use the analogy of the ripple of the pebble tossed into the pond. As the ripples permeate outward, so, too, does my energy signature, be it from a peace and love filled mindset or from a fear filled mindset. It is clear to me that one’s thoughts, words and actions greatly impact upon the totality of the planet; hence, I have nowhere to begin but with myself.
For those that feel themselves to be slightly outside the fray (as in organized religion), this is the next book you need to purchase. For those that like to exercise an open mind, and are willing to take the chance on going outside the fray, this is the next book you need to purchase. After reading Going Deeper you will never look at life in the same light again. Quite simply, be prepared for the ride of your life!
Will it be an easy task? Some days, yes. Some days, no. Am I up to the challenge? I believe that I am. Am I open to the possibilities that exist? Most definitely. Quite clearly, this is “the book that is sending shock waves through the metaphysical community”.
This is a statement that entices and beckons one to come forward and explore possibilities. May you be the very next to do so.

This books takes on the age-old question, “What is the meaning of life?” in a most intelligent and insightful way. Author Jean-Claude Koven proves his insatiable curiosity about the nature of consciousness with this fictional account of a week in the life of one man and his search for the Great Unknowable Mystery. It begins in the week following 9/11, when our hero Larry and his very special adopted puppy head to Joshua Tree National Monument to commune with nature. Larry gets more than he bargained for, as encounters with a talking a raccoon, a juniper tree, and even a million-year-old rock shatter his view of reality and transform his previous beliefs about Heaven and Earth.
Koven has traveled the world seeking answers to the great spiritual mysteries, studying mystics from Lao-Tse to L. Ron Hubbard and many lesser-known cosmic searchers. He weaves many of these ideas into Larry’s encounter, expressing a sense of urgency about the need to cure the imbalance we now face on Earth, and describing how we must rise to new heights of awareness and compassion. Larry’s enlightenment is aided by spiritual icons like the Medicine Wheel and a native shaman, visions of soaring eagles and dramatic sunsets, voyages through crystal caves and virtual galaxies, and frightening visits to his own dark side. This dramatic cosmic trip eventually brings him back to the simple truths of surrender and humility, and the underlying importance of “being present.” Unlike most self-help guides, Koven promises no quick fix, and urges us to approach the quest for awareness with hard work, and sense of humor, and thorough, meditative introspection.
Are we due for an apocalypse? Is the world out of control? Whether it is or not, this book brings much relief by offering ways to “be in the now” and to “think with your heart and love with your mind.” All our problems, from war, to greed, to addictions, can’t be solved with pills or money or power. The answers — and the conscious will to save ourselves and our planet — can only be found by “going deeper” within.

The author of this metaphysical masterpiece is sending shockwaves of realisation through the spiritual world. Going Deeper is extremely well written, openingly tells a compelling story, employing fascinating and unique characters, both timely and timeless, and overflows with spiritual and metaphysical wisdom of the highest order. Koven’s book is destined for greatness.
Koven transports the reader through portals of dimensions and realities that are startling, yet intimately startling. Through a cast of enchanting and unpredictable characters; like an irreverent talking dog, and a rapping racoon raconteur and much more. This book is not a literary fiction or fantasy, for the metaphysical insights Koven presents certainly reflects some of universal aspects of many great wisdom traditions. Jean-Claude Koven has spent the last four decades studying with some of the world’s greatest teachers, and has first hand knowledge of esoteric truths.
Going Deeper is one of those remarkably rare books that will be read and reread, and treasured as a true marker of the transformation of your life. It is an incredible story, most entertaining and a thoroughly potent manual of how to live in the higher self.

Going Deeper delivers 430 pages of spiritual wisdom with fiction and humor. You’ll want to savor the many esoteric insights presented in an easy and fun style.
If you crave something other than re-hashed metaphysical fare, this is the book you’ve been waiting for. But be prepared to abandon some old precepts as you gain a new level of understanding universal principles. Going Deeper will be the catalyst for change. I found the process exhilirating.
Like other “Wanderers” who have gravitated to Going Deeper, I too, have gained a deeper understanding of my spiritual purpose on this planet.
I will return to Going Deeper when I need to be reminded of the joy its spiritual truths brought to me. I knew early into the book that Going Deeper would be my book pick of 2005 and on my Top Ten of all time.

Going Deeper is a self-help book that manages to do something amazing it is completely original. Jean-Claude Coven utilizes a brilliantly imaginative story line to convey invaluable life lessons in an insightful yet fun-to-read style.
Going Deeper is for all of the millions of Wanderers who inhabit the Earth in a corporeal sense and yet constantly feel an underlying tug at their memory of where they actually came from because they know they did not originate the same way as the humans. The Wanderers are slow to awaken because of the powerful Veil of illusion that encompasses the entirety of Earth. It seems that rending the Veil will require more effort than the Wanderers originally thought that it would, and it cannot truly be done until their still-slumbering brethren join the ten percent who are already awake. However, awaken they must if they wish to ever reach the next step in their inevitable journey.
The main character is Larry, a Los Angeles attorney, who is accompanied by his faithful companion, Zeus. The pair spend more than two days attempting to navigate their way to the Joshua Tree Park. They meet a plethora of unlikely instructors along the way, including a rapping raccoon, stones that speak, trees that talk and a lovely white buffalo. With this unusual cast of characters, Larry finally begins to realize who he is and why he was put on Earth. The way the flora and fauna transmit this message without being a slave to the rigidly strict beliefs that normally hang over everyone and touches of humor make the vital lessons more palatable. The message virtually springs from the realm of fiction to touch and hopefully awaken the pulse and heart of the mere human readers who delve into this refreshing yet challenging book.
The plotting of the book is masterful, and Koven follows it lovingly. The characters are so well fleshed out that one indeed believes that the animals and vegetation are revealing such life changing information. Coven successfully walks the line of making the story both fantastic and at the same time believable. Anyone who appreciates masterful fiction and or could use some gentle guidance in his or her life should read this book. A great story and helpful advice.

Expand your mind, escape your confines and discover your true kind! Poetic, but prophetic!
Going Deeper will unlock the shocking secrets of a hidden human race called the Wanderers. Some of who are yet to realise that their human awareness has been distorted as they passed through the Veil of Forgetting and entered the illusion of Earth. Are you one of these beings? This book will help you expand your mind and decide.
This book is based around a successful Los Angeles attorney, Larry Randers, who having been through a painful divorce and witnessed the atrocious events of 9/11 2001, starts to question his own existence. Needing space to think, Larry decides to travel to Joshua Tree land with his faithful dog, Zeus, where, through a series of Shamanic style teachings Larry is opened up to a world much bigger than he ever imagined, a matrix beyond the normal realm of reality as he knew it.
Are you a loner rather than a joiner? Do you rebel against religion or gravitate toward Eastern philosophies, like Buddhism and Taosim or the less orthodox beliefs or religions into which you were born? Do you wonder what your purpose in life is, or if there is more to life than what can be seen? If so, perhaps you are a `Wanderer’. Described by Jean-Claude Koven as beings that have returned to earth on a mission to assist with the impending shift in planetary consciousness. How can we break free from the illusion human beings call `reality’ and remember whom we are? What exactly have we been forced to forget? These are typical questions our star pupil, Larry, ponders throughout the course of this book.
Our solar system has moved into a “different area” of space; the size of the sun’s heliosphere has increased and so has its plasmic energy field. If that wasn’t worrying enough, the atmospheres of five planets (including Earth) have recently undergone shifts in their magnetic pole positions so significantly that the aeronautical maps used by pilots have been revised.
The evidence of the shift is unmistakable and, quite frankly, disturbing. But what about the mystic plane you don’t see? The part your distorted human awareness blocks out.
Jean-Claude Koven is an incredible writer whose parables are full of cleverly designed analogies and metaphors that make perfect, thought provoking sense. Going Deeper is a fascinating, humorous account of one enlightened man’s experience and knowledge, which kept my interest throughout. In short it’s a self-help book with a difference—an Interplanetary Manual. His teachings are fun, exciting and written from the heart.
On the surface this book reads like a cross between a sci-fi fantasy, history and science lesson. There’s a talking dog, Zeus, a rapping racoon and numerous other of Larry’s sub personalities and strange, but wonderful characters such as Junie the talking tree. However, Going Deeper these characters are key players acting out author Jean-Claudes’s profound metaphysical teachings as told with such spiritual enthusiasm I could feel his passion burst from the pages as I read. This spiritual journey should be seen as a parable of the author’s real life self-discovery and your personal guide to making sense of our mixed-up world. An insightful book for Wanderers who feel the need to find out more about their purpose in life and escape the boundaries of today’s realism we are encased within.
Mr. Koven concludes this insightful book with a chapter of acknowledgements, followed by suggested explorations, a helpful glossary and finally an index. The result is an extraordinary look into the mind of a man who can help you discover the answers you seek, delivered with a notable style worthy of our attention. This book is definitely a `keeper’ I shall refer to and to cap it all, the cover is gorgeous.
The only thing I found quite alarming was the discovery that Zeus the wonderful talking dog is actually real, but stuffed! I shall be asking the author more about this during our future planned interview, alongside some more meaningful questions, of course!

I give thanks and gratitude to the author for bringing this wonderful experience to the world.
I finished this book in September and feel a sense of anew-ness in all aspects of my being. I even copied the lessons in the book for my daily spiritual practice. Jean-Claude Koven did a dynamic job on writing this joyous and enlightening story. Before this book, I didn’t know anything about wanderers, yet I had many questions and experiences such as Larry. I feel a sense of revelation.
Jean-Claude’s storytelling techniques really captured my interest and attention. Each time I bean to read, a surge of energy swept through me. My entire body/mind/spirit became activated. I give thanks and gratitude to the author for bringing this wonderful experience to the world. I learned much from Larry’s journey, and Zeus and the other “selves” teachings. So much of me began to reveal or unveil itself to me. And… for that I am forever changed.

Jean-Claude Koven has reset the Book of Job in the American West. As with the Book of Job, the start is the coming of a great wind from the wilderness leaving a path of destruction but also the main speaker for the Lord, the Yiddish-speaking Zeus in the form of a dog who is given to lecturing. “Every part of Creation is a harmonious manifestation of the infinite potential of Love. Love flows from intent through concept into light, sound, and form. Each part of Creation appears discrete, yet it belongs to a continuous circle of Consciousness.”
However, unlike the Book of Job, Satan is missing – Satan being not an opponent of God in early Jewish literature but rather a cause of stumbling or hesitation.
Job is renamed Larry, a Los Angeles lawyer, and he is beset less with problems — other than a recent divorce — than with a questioning about the meaning of life. The problems are not in his own life, but “out there” and he gives a moving list “Leaders at all levels wielded fear as their weapon of choice. They fanned the fires of mistrust and hatred…The result was a widening spiral of destruction and imbalance in which a small percentage of the population overproduced and overconsumed while the majority barely survived…There is a marked resurgence in religious fundamentalism. Extremists and literalists have become more vocal and visible on all fronts. Each sect seems to have spawned a righteous majority that sits in judgment over their more liberal fellow believers while fomenting hatred and violence against those who do not share their dogma…Scientists are finally admitting that their ecologist brethren may have been right all along. There is now conclusive evidence that the planet’s biosphere may be on the brink of collapse. One relatively minor event — a flood or drought, a prolonged rain storm or large fire — could tip the balance forever.”
However, the world is also in a period of transition to the next cycle of evolution, the Age of Aquarius. This transition is difficult, but there are those who have incarnated at this time in order to facilitate the transition. Yet, even these evolutionary workers, like Larry, can have difficulties understanding the many forms this transition tasks. Thus the need for inner stability.
The quest for understanding and inner stability is filled with spirit guides, talking animals, rocks and trees who outline a pattern of cosmic evolution and ever higher levels of consciousness. “Love is Infinite Consciousness. Wisdom is Infinite Intelligence, and Power is the innate ability to Create.” However, regularly Zeus breaks in to say “ Why do I get the distinct impression you’re not following me here? Let me take another approach.”
These guides are the uncomforting comforters of Job who lecture on the nature of God’s justice but in ways that are never incarnated into Job’s life. Likewise, Larry is offered a series of lectures that may be real facts but are not useful for his needs. The book is an extended example of the difference between what may be “out there” and what can be incarnated into one’s life.
It is the inner dimension that becomes “real” for Larry, expressed in a short quote from Carl Gustav Jung “Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart…Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” It is the charkas — energy points related to the body — where equilibrium and stability is to be found. “In the process of balancing your charkas, you will garner three important benefits: one, you consciously participate in the flow of Creation; two, you become aware of the awesome power of the Love/Light energy permeating All That Is; and three, you fully recognize yourself as the Creator.”
It is in the inner action between the body, the mind, and the higher self that stability is found. As Larry says near the end of the book “It isn’t about the collective anymore. All the labels that define me as part of a group — however wonderful or noble — have to fall away. It is all about the individual, the one buried inside every human being on the planet. It’s all about me and what I choose to do!”
While Going Deeper is a good deal longer than the Book of Job, it is a record of interesting exchanges and a call to go deeper into the Self.

Going Deeper ventures deeply into life’s meaning.
In this highly-praised spiritual teaching novel, author Jean-Claude Koven delves deeply into the mysteries of life, providing gentle wakeup calls for those known as Wanderers seeking to make sense of their life on this earthly plane.
Reviewers have described Going Deeper as “mythic and masterful,” and the “hottest metaphysical book of the new millennium.” In fact, it has received the USA Book News Best Books 2005 Award for Best New Age Fiction title, and the Allbooks Reviews Editor’s Choice Award for Best Metaphysical Book.
Going Deeper exposes the reader to a new perspective on Creation, Koven said. Instead of focusing on the perennial questions – Who am I? and Why am I here? – it explores an even more basic set of questions: What is here? Who created here? Why was here created?
“Once these more fundamental questions are answered, the questions pertaining to personal identity and meaning are easily and effortlessly resolved,” the author said. He adds that the book was written for “the tens of millions of people who feel that, despite all their accomplishments and knowledge, their lives still don’t really make sense. It is a book for people who feel alienated from most of mainstream society’s values and are saddened by the way humans treat each other.
“The book is a manual for people who want to recover all their innate wisdom and power, who want to understand their unique purpose for incarnating, and who want to participate purposefully in the planetary shift that is underway. It’s a book for people who want to help humanity evolve to the next level of consciousness.”
Who are the Wanderers for whom Koven says his book has been written? “Wanderers are highly evolved souls who have lovingly come from the higher densities (mainly the sixth) to be of service on this planet in human form. If you are one of these beings, the material in this book will trigger your memories and begin the process of awakening to who you truly are. “The Wanderers’ more concentrated level of consciousness is an energetic mismatch with the vibrations of the third density. These higher-density beings do not penetrate the Veil of Forgetting with the same ease as third-density beings. As a result, they often feel like fish out of water – somewhat alienated socially, psychologically, and physically, faintly aware that Earth is not their real home. They frequently suffer any one of a host of physical ailments, loosely termed allergenic or autoimmune conditions, in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the cells, tissues, and organs of the person’s own body.
“Wanderers, sometimes called Lightworkers or Starseeds, are a group of 70 million highly evolved entities that came to Earth from other dimensions to assist with the impending shift in planetary consciousness. When the illusion that human beings call ‘reality’ was first envisioned by the Creator, it was meant to be a game board upon which godlike beings would ‘pretend’ to forget who they are. There they could play at creating new experiences possible only in the crucible of duality and polarity where belief and emotion are the prime forces of motivation.
“It soon became apparent that the illusion was too well-crafted. The experiment, while interesting was not going as planned; with each successive incarnation, souls were experiencing greater levels of pain and suffering. Several times in the history of our planet, advanced beings incarnated on Earth to help shift consciousness and offer expanded choices. In each instance, their higher teachers were appropriated by the priesthood and ultimately created more harm than good.
“Now, in this crucial time when humanity has but a few precious years to avoid self-created calamities, more than 70 million of these advanced beings have already incarnated on Earth. At present, fewer than nine percent of these Wanderers have succeeded in cleansing the sleep from their eyes. Like the six billion souls they came to serve, the rest are trapped in the illusion of this plane of existence, unable to break free. However, the effect that this small percentage of awakened beings has already made is considerable. To those still struggling beneath the weight of the Veil, breaking free seems daunting. In fact, it is surprisingly simple. Going Deeper offers a precise template for awakening from the trance of Forgetting.”
Koven said that Going Deeper is his contribution to shifting the consciousness of this planet – one person at a time. He contends that his book is “a mirror which allows people to see themselves stripped of the dominant culture’s consensus belief systems. It is meant to awaken the still, small voice in each of us that knows there is more than what society teaches us about reality and our place and role in it.
“Going Deeper offers a blueprint for breaking free of self-created limitation and dependence on others for our well-being. My vision for what the teachings of Going Deeper can do in the world is just this: we need not be victims of small definitions of self or of beliefs or religious dogma. We are born with the capacity to unite knowingly with the creative consciousness which powers the whole universe. We can easily learn how to live in the full spectrum self, how to create and dissolve our own points of view at will, and how to live with love and compassion for all of creation.”
Current world conditions, particularly since 9/11 and the debacle in the Middle East, support the contentions by Koven and other spiritually aware observers and practitioners that most of humanity is deeply asleep and alienated from the Truth of their being.
Going Deeper is a wise, thoughtful, challenging and multilayered book that addresses many of life’s deepest questions and mysteries. If you are going to read any new metaphysical books this year make certain that Going Deeper is one of them.

The first thing that attracted me to Going Deeper is the cover. It is the most serene and beautiful cover I’ve seen for a long time. If we say that we judge the book by its cover, this is one that can be judged. The inside truths are as dynamic as the outside.
Jean-Claude Koven weaves a vibrant fictional plot with two characters, Larry, a Los Angeles lawyer, and Zeus, a dog that is a “genetic marvel – part everything.” They take a 3 day trip into the Joshua Tree National Park, meeting wise teachers along the way. The teachers came in various forms such as Junie, the talking Juniper Tree and Kichi, the androgynous Body Elemental. Each teacher portrays an aspect of wisdom that truth seekers seek.
Interspersed with humor, Going Deeper gives the reader a three dimensional look into the wisdom of the ages, including Akashic records, Phoenix rising, Law of Purpose, and Free Will, to create a path for spiritual awakening. “More than sixty million entities willingly accepted the assignment . . . to assist transition into the next paradigm.” The entities are referred to as the Wanderers, or more traditionally known as the Light Workers. Koven’s book transcribes one Wanderers’ journey to enlightenment, a destination that the character’s soul chose when being born on earth.
Going Deeper is a slow first read for a Wanderer because every page has a deep message for facing the reality of higher dimensional living, a path that was chosen by contract. On the second read, the Wanderer will encounter their own spiritual truths that take them to a higher state of consciousness. This is a deep book and only recommended for those that seriously want to change their lives.

If you find alternate realities, quantum physics and veils of consciousness interesting but intimidating then this is the book for you. Koven tackles these subjects through a fictionalized account of one man’s spiritual awakening, aided by a talking dog and a rapping raccoon. Sound silly? Some of it is. But it’s also refreshing, playful and eye-opening.
This book’s subhead promises we’ll be able to make sense of our life when our life makes no sense. Yet this is not formatted as a how-to guide. Instead we are given examples and principles that we can apply to solve our own unique problems. These are told through conversation and amusing proverbs as the main character Larry spends a life-changing weekend in the woods. In this time he discovers how to transcend ego and merge with all of life’s consciousness, and to surrender to and trust in the great Cosmic Intelligence.
Much of this book centers on mankind’s hope for the future, and how 70 million already-existing Wanderers are attuned to a great planetary shift. Going Deeper asserts that most exist in a limited-realm called third density consciousness, although some evolved people are already at higher densities that are infinitely more loving and real. Koven explains this concept using simple metaphors and basic quantum physics. Although the latter is inherently heavy and intellectual, Koven’s playful explanations make it captivating. Enough so that I am motivated to learn more about quantum physics and its applications in consciousness.
This is an innovative and enjoyable read that makes obscure and far-off concepts relevant and exciting.
